DSF Sports Hall of Fame

Three members of our class have been inducted into the Douglas Freeman Sports Hall of Fame.  The inductees are: 

 

Mark Harvey

1976-1980 Began his coaching career at Parry McCluer High school in Buena Vista VAas an assistant in basketball and track and field.

1980-1983  Was head boys and girls coach in track and field and cross country, and taught world geography, government and math.

1983-2007  Moved to Freeman where he taught and coached. Track won 13 district titlesand 3 regional titles. Cross Country won 31 district titles, 10 regional titles, and one state title in girls cross country.

Retired in 2007 and moved to Benedictine where he coached and taught until he retired in 2016. He continues to be a volunteer coach at Freeman.

 

 

Mike Welch

Wrestled at Freeman where he was a two-time regional champion, going undefeated his senior year and finished 4th in the state tournament. Was a three-time letter winner at Virginia Tech, and was a team captain his senior year.

Coached wrestling at the University of Massachusetts.

Was a college professor at Southern Connecticut State, The USMA, and Guilford College.

Lives in Indian Land SC

 

 

Kenny Moore

Beginning in 1973, he taught Latin for 35 years at DSF. He coached football for 30 years, wrestling for 4 years, and baseball for 46 years.

The baseball field was dedicated to Kenny in 2008. He had the most wins in Central region history.

Was the captain of varsity football and baseball teams at DSF.

He coached American Legion baseball, and still volunteer coaches and scouts for his son Ray.
