I met Chuck in San Diego the summer of 2005, just three months before his death due to a heart attack. He was running a service craft in the main harbor there to help folks who ran out of gas, ran aground, or had engine trouble. This was his answer to retirement after a career in the Navy and Merchant Marine. We spent a day on the water - viewing the beautiful coastline and dodging the gigantic ocean transport vessels and US Navy ships.
His other passion was model railroading. He took me to a new model railroad museum where he proudly served a a founder and board member. I got to meet his wife Irene while visiting. He was a good friend and is sorely missed.
