June and I were fortunate to reconnect with Alan and meet his wife Shelley over the last year. Even though Alan was ill, we were able to visit their beautiful home near the Neuse River and Pamlico Sound north of Beaufort, NC. We had a fine afternoon and Alan still seemed in good spirits. He was taken too soon. He spent much of his retirement as a volunteer at Cape Lookout. If you ever visit the lighthouse, check out the detached Summer Kitchen and remember Al. He led the project project to renovate it after a recent hurricane. Al and his family remain in our prayers.

We were also fortunate to experience the hospitality and friendship of Alan and Shelley this past September, just a few months before his passing.  We spent a lovely afternoon at his home on the Neuse river - catching up on the past 50 years, telling stories, and reminiscing about our time together in Cub/Boy scouts. He will be sorely missed. We too send our loving thoughts and prayers to his family.

I'm so very sorry to hear about Alan.  I had only been reunited with him for the last 4-5 years.  Alan and I worked together at Simpson's Frame Shop in Ridge Shopping Center next to the school.  He got me the job there.  I was not in the band but other than that, we spent a whole lot of time together, mostly at his home on Wishart, playing with CB radios and such.  We had 3 great years there together and spent more time together than we probably should have.  I learned to drive shift on a column in his 55 Belair.  We double dated for years and then lost touch when I moved away and he went off to college.  My wife found him through social media a few years ago and we instantly hooked up.   We got to know each other better and rehashed a lot of old times.  Al was quite the meteorologist.  He would send me great weather maps and forecasts for where I live in Hurricane Alley.  We had hoped to meet each other again in Gulf Shores, AL last spring but his health and my health issues prevented it.  What a great guy!  So sorry I never got to meet Miss Shelley but he sent me pics because he was so proud of her.  He also LOVED where he lived on the coast and his jobs there.  I have lots of pics of that too.  Rest in peace my friend. I wish you calm winds and fair seas.
